I’m sure quite a few job seekers feel appearance should be the least of their worries when it comes to an interview, when in fact, it could actually be a deal breaker. Would you believe that within the first seven seconds your potential 
employer has already made up in their mind if you’re right for the position? “That’s right” before you even open your mouth your presentation has possibly increased your opportunity for employment or landed you one foot out the door. Luckily appearance is one of those things that is within your control at an interview. Remember you only have one chance to make a first impression, so make sure your presentation is delivering the right message.
You may often hear the phrase “Look the Part” when seeking advice about preparing for an interview. What that means is basically consider the position in which you are seeking and base your appearance accordingly. While your attire is an important part of your look, your hair, nails and make-up all play equal roles. If you’re not sure what look is best for you, go to your local salon and have a consultation with a hair stylist. Cosmetologist are actually trained to choose a look for their client based on several factors that include but are not limited to your face shape, complexion, lifestyle and your ability to maintain a style. Regular maintenance of your hair is definitely a confidence booster, so think twice before skipping that appointment, besides when you look good you feel good. You should desire your potential employer to sense that your confident, believe in yourself and that you’re fit for the company’s image.
In the event you can’t make it to the salon those simple changes can make great impacts. You’ll need to ask yourself a couple of questions about the job you’re seeking like “Is this a conservative position”? or “Is this a company that encourages creative expression”? In corporate positions chances are if you think it’s too much it probably is. Save the glitter and sparkles for the night. Instead of going for that bold red lip color consider something more subtle like a neutral or rose pink. Keep from applying your eyeliner too thick and switch out those false lashes for mascara.
If you are going for a strong sophisticated look, instead of a typical ponytail consider grabbing a few hair pins and twisting it into a bun. Try curling the ends of your hair rather than keeping it completely straight, it shows more effort. Again it all comes down to the position in which you seek, regardless of how much expression is allowed just keep in mind you want to be perceived as confident and polished.
