Five months before landing my dream career coaching position at LHH, I applied for a job just five minutes from my house. The thought of returning to career coaching full-time with a steady 8-5, Monday through Friday schedule was exhilarating. It seemed perfect. But, as it turned out, that job wasn’t where I was meant to be.
When I didn’t get the position, I was, of course, disappointed. However, deep down, I believed God had a better opportunity for me. So, I turned to journaling, writing my vision (Habakkuk 2:2), and describing in detail what my dream job would look like.
With each journal entry, the vision of my ideal job became clearer. Some key aspects included:
• Utilizing my career coaching skills
• Being in an environment where I’m valued and appreciated
• Having a flexible schedule
• Working remotely
• Enjoying autonomy
• Receiving a generous compensation
The more I wrote, the more focused my job search became. Alongside journaling, I prayed the following prayer, “God, please close the doors that You don’t want me to walk through and open the ones You do.”
Within five months, I was blessed with a Career Coach role at LHH, the top HR solutions organization globally.
If you fear landing the wrong career opportunity, I encourage you to consider Habakkuk 2:2 – write the vision and make it plain. Start journaling your vision of an ideal job daily, so it becomes clearer. Then, ask God to guide your path by closing doors that aren’t meant for you and opening the ones that are.
