A key to understanding the design of God’s word is through the meaning of biblical numbers. This series will continue with the biblical meaning of the number 2. If you missed the biblical meaning of the number 1, click here to read.
The biblical significance of number 2 represents union, division and witnessing. Two suggests that all manifestation requires co-creation, and nothing is created by self alone. We are asked to join with God or with others of like-mind, like-ideals and a sense of purpose to co-create. These partnerships result in breeding new life or expressions into the world. Such as a man and woman joined in marriage bring new life and balance into each other’s life or partnering with others to take their inspired ideas out into the world as new products or solutions.
On the opposite side of the coin, biblical number two also represents division. Two urges us out of indecision and to use our judgment to discern what is best for our souls, resulting in living and creating a life that represents our authentic values and beliefs.
“And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ.” (Philippians 1:9-10)
Biblical number 2 also represents witnessing. The disciples were sent out by Jesus in pairs to not only testify about His teachings and miracles, but to also be witnesses of those that accepted or rejected the gospel (Mark 6:7 – 13). In the Old Testament, two or more witnesses were needed to convict someone of a crime or sin.
“A single witness shall not rise up against a man on account of any iniquity or any sin which he has committed; on the evidence of two or three witnesses a matter shall be confirmed.” (Deuteronomy 19:15)
