The overall meaning of biblical number 4 represents creation and a way of “being” that connects the mind – body – spirit to the physical world of structure and organization. The demarcation of time was performed on the fourth day of creation. God created the material universe and brought into existence the sun, the moon and all the stars to separate the day from the night and to serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years. (Genesis 1:14)
The 4th Commandment is to remember and keep God’s holy Sabbath day. The Sabbath day is tied to creation week, when after God brought everything into existence the previous six days, He rested.
9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. (Exodus 20:9 -11)
Biblical number 4 also symbolizes our needs and a way of “being” in the world. The safety and security of home; the need for stability and strength built on a solid foundation of values and beliefs; the need for creating a sacred place or sanctuary in your home to meditate and build an inner foundation of strength and “being”. A recurrence of the number 4 in your life may signify a need to get back to your authentic self and get reacquainted and centered with God.
